Parent educators, child care providers, health care professionals, faith-based organizations and other family service agencies can enhance professional skills, learn methods of evaluating programs, and develop emergency preparedness plans during the Southern University Ag Center's Family and Health Conference, April 16-17, 2009, at the Baton Rouge Marriott.

The conference will address the varied challenges that families are experiencing nationally and solutions that agencies can employ to better serve the family.

In order to alleviate some of the gaps in education and services, the Ag Center's Family and Human Development Department felt that this conference would address the physical and social needs of families and will indeed be a significant forum for "Building Healthy Foundations for Families"

Outcomes:
  • Increase knowledge on risk factors associate with tobacco use, health risks factors of childhood obesity,
  • Gain more knowledge on the selection of nutritious food for children and families.
  • Improve skills in doing physical activity
  • Decrease health risk by learning to control stress
  • Learn methods of evaluating family programs
  • Develop an emergency preparedness plan
